A rescue dog from Dogs Home Manchester has found her happy ending after being adopted by Coronation Street and West End star Jodie Prenger.
Jodie has been supporting Dogs Home Manchester for the past few months, regularly bringing donations for both the charity shop and the dogs in our care. During her visits, she has also spent time meeting some of our rescue dogs and learning more about the work of the charity.
A couple of months ago, a little Griffon Cross named Muffin arrived in our care. At around two years old, Muffin needed plenty of TLC after suffering from painful skin and ear conditions that required treatment.
As Jodie already owns the breed, she was immediately drawn to Muffin. After enquiring about her and receiving some photos, it wasn’t long before she arranged to meet the little dog.
Jodie said:
“I saw one photo. She had two satellite dishes for ears. About 5 teeth sticking out the front . I knew there were zero chance of saying no.”

Following several successful meet-and-greets, Muffin packed her bags and headed off to her new life with Jodie and her wonderful family of animals. Her new home already includes dogs, cats, hens and even a rescued pigeon, making it the perfect place for a sociable little dog to thrive.
Now renamed Betty, the former rescue has settled into family life beautifully and is enjoying all the love and comfort she deserves.
Jodie added:
“Betty didn’t “settle in” she galloped through the front door like she’d lived here all her life.
It was basically, “Right, where’s the water? Where are the toys? This garden will do nicely. You lot can crack on.”
Seriously, within seconds she’d done a lap of the garden, had a drink, raided the toy basket, and made herself completely at home. I knew then I’d been promoted to full-time staff before I’d put my handbag down.
You know, anyone who’s ever lost a dog will get it, when you lose your little best mate, they leave a hole in your heart that never really goes away. That’s exactly how I felt when I lost Ruby. Then I saw a picture of Betty. There was just something about her that reminded me of Ruby, and she melted my heart before I’d even met her.”
Everyone at Dogs Home Manchester is delighted that Betty has found her forever home and is grateful to Jodie for not only opening her heart to a rescue dog but also for her continued support of the charity.
Jodie said:
“Oh and I bet you are wondering about her name. The brilliant Manchester dogs home called her muffin. But, I couldn’t not call her Betty. I’ve already got an Elsie, even though I sound like Frank Spencer every time I’m calling her. I do urge anyone to look at a local rescue centre. Your Betty could be waiting to come home with you too.”
James, Home Manager at Dogs Home Manchester, said:
“Rehoming a dog with someone in the public eye also helps raise awareness of the work we do and the importance of rescue and rehoming. This increased visibility is invaluable in highlighting the needs of rescue dogs and encouraging others to consider adoption.
Jodie has been a wonderful supporter of the dogs’ home, and we are extremely grateful for her continued commitment and advocacy on behalf of our dogs.”
The Dogs Home Manchester cares for hundreds of dogs every year, providing them with the veterinary treatment, rehabilitation and love they need before finding them safe, permanent homes. The charity relies on the generosity of supporters, volunteers and adopters to continue giving dogs like Betty the second chance they deserve.
