Meet Rufus our gorgeous goofball! (46kg). He is looking for an experienced home where he can continue to learn and enjoy all the love and attention he deserves. When Rufus first arrived, he was a nervous boy and could be a bit growly while he found his feet. However, he has now come out of his shell and what a character he is! He’s a friendly and affectionate lad who absolutely loves a fuss and being around people. Rufus is a big boy with an equally big personality. He’s giddy, playful and full of enthusiasm. He loves his toys and often likes to carry two around in his mouth at once. He also has a habit of using your leg as a handy resting place for his toys while he is playing with them, unfortunately he doesn’t always realise when he is chewing his toy that he has nipped legs by accident on occasion. One thing potential adopters really need to be aware of is Rufus’s strength. He is very strong on the lead and does pull a lot. He will need further lead training and an experienced handler who is physically capable of managing large, powerful and boisterous dog. Rufus can also become a little mouthy when he’s overexcited, so he’ll need someone who understands this behaviour and is happy to continue working on his manners and impulse control. Rufus is looking for an experienced owner who has previously owned large, strong and energetic dogs. An owner committed to ongoing training, particularly lead manners, excitement management and learning appropriate boundaries. Someone who understands that his size and enthusiasm can sometimes get the better of him. Rufus has so much potential and, underneath all that strength and silliness, there’s an affectionate boy who wants to enjoy life and be someone’s special companion. He will need a private secure garden.
Rufus has socialised well with other dogs while in our care, but we feel he would be best rehomed as the only dog in the home where he can get 100% of the attention and training he needs.
No cats for Rufus.
As Rufus came into the home as a stray, we have no previous history on him so would prefer any children/visiting children in the home to be 16+ years.
If you have a holiday booked in the next 3 months, please wait until you return to apply for a dog.
Applications that are successful will be provided with further information on each dog to the best of the charity’s knowledge.
