Baloo is looking for a very special home that understands his need for patience, space and trust. Baloo is a very nervous boy and new people can be quite overwhelming for him. When he first arrived with us, it took him a couple of weeks to start coming around, and initially he could be a little growly when he felt unsure or uncomfortable. He is still wary of new people and can sometimes be very avoidant. Fast movements can scare him, so everything needs to be taken slowly and calmly around him. Baloo needs people who will allow him to approach in his own time, without pressure, and who understand that building a relationship with a nervous dog takes time and patience. Once Baloo feels more comfortable, we get to see glimpses of the lovely boy underneath that uncertainty. He really enjoys his off-lead time in our compound, where he loves running around and chasing his toys. Seeing him relax and enjoy himself has been incredibly rewarding. Baloo will need an adopter who is prepared to put time into building his trust and allow him to settle at his own pace. We are looking for a Chow Chow breed experienced home where his behaviour and body language will be understood and respected. Because of his nervous nature, several meet and greets will be required before adoption. We want Baloo and his potential family to have plenty of opportunities to get to know one another and for trust to develop naturally. Baloo isn’t going to be the dog who instantly runs up to you and asks for a cuddle. He needs to earn your trust – slowly, quietly and on his terms. But for the right person, watching a nervous dog begin to feel safe can be incredibly rewarding. He will need a private secure garden.
Baloo has socialised with other dogs whilst in our care, although he can be barky at times he seems more comfortable around quieter dogs but still very unsure. We feel he would be best rehomed as the only dog in the home where his new adopter can commit to building up his confidence around other dogs in a controlled environment with lots of positive reinforcement.
No cats for Baloo.
As Baloo came into the home as a stray, we have no previous history on him and as he is a nervous boy we would prefer any children/visiting children in the home to be 14+ years.
If you have a holiday booked in the next 3 months, please wait until you return to apply for a dog.
*Applications that are successful will be provided with further information on each dog to the best of the charity’s knowledge.
