On Friday 1st May, the brand-new café at Dogs Home Cheshire officially opened its doors to the public — and it has already become a huge hit within the local community.
The café was generously donated and brought to life by Ampika Pickston, who wanted to create something special that would not only raise vital funds for the dogs home, but also become a true hub for the local community — a welcoming place where people can come together, connect, and support a meaningful cause.
Thanks to Ampika’s incredible network of contacts, the majority of the café’s equipment and furnishings were donated. This included tables, chairs, a coffee machine, vending machine, decorations, paint, ornaments, and much more. Local artist Claire Wright also contributed by creating a stunning large-scale mural for the café wall, alongside beautiful framed dog-themed artwork that adds warmth and personality to the venue.
Community spirit has been at the heart of the project from the very beginning. Items needed for the café were added to an Amazon wishlist, which Ampika promoted across her social media platforms, giving supporters the opportunity to contribute directly to the project. Any remaining items were then funded through a charity gala hosted by Ampika, helping ensure the café was fully equipped and ready to welcome visitors.
Since opening, the café has received an overwhelmingly positive response from local residents, supporters, and dog lovers alike. More than just a café, the space has quickly become a place for the community to gather, socialise, and support the incredible work carried out by the dogs home. Every visit helps contribute towards the care and welfare of the dogs waiting to find their forever homes, while also strengthening the sense of community around the centre.
