10th Anniversary of the fire at Manchester Dogs Home

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the criminal fire at Manchester Dogs’ Home, and for us this is a day of reflection and contemplation for our staff, trustees, volunteers and supporters.

First and foremost we remember with love and sorrow the dogs who lost their lives that terrible night, as well as the survivors, all of whom were safely re-homed.

We also reflect on the heroism of the staff who rushed to the scene and worked through the nights and days that followed, and all those members of our wonderful local community in Harpurhey and beyond who came to our aid when we most needed it.

We will never forget, either, the groundswell of support and solidarity from people and businesses across Manchester but also all over the UK and beyond who responded to the M.E.N.’s reader appeal, to our JustGiving appeal and to the various calls for practical assistance that were met in the hours, days, weeks and months that followed.

On that night a decade ago when our worst nightmare came true, we were held in real love and support by the wider community. And in continuing our mission to care for those dogs who are most in need, we hope we repay that kindness every single day.
